3. Dry AMD vs Wet AMD Explained

Dry Macular Degeneration

Prevalence: 85%–90% of AMD patients.

Mechanism: Slow, gradual accumulation of drusen and thinning of the retinal pigment epithelium and photoreceptors.

Progression: Develops slowly over many years. In late stages, it may cause Geographic Atrophy (GA).

Wet Macular Degeneration

Progression: Can progress rapidly within weeks or days as leaky vessels bleed and exudate fluid into the macula.
